Community litter picking scheme

We are able to support community groups planning litter picking events.

We can:

  • lend you a litter picking kit
  • provide a guidance pack to help you plan your event
  • provide a sample risk assessment template
  • arrange for any rubbish collected to be removed

Litter picking kits

The litter picking kit you can borrow includes the following:

  • 20 hi-visibility waistcoats
  • 20 litter pickers
  • disposable gloves
  • sacks

We have three kits available. To support as many groups as possible, we will provide a maximum of two kits for any one event.

Event planning guidance

Please see Clean Devon for more information on litter picking and planning a safe and enjoyable litter picking event for your community.

Their community litter pick pack gives advice on the arrangements you need to put in place to maintain the safety of your volunteers.

Litter Action. can also provide further advice on organising a litter pick.

Risk assessment template

Prior to an event it is important you assess potential risks and hazards by carrying out a visual site inspection and bespoke risk assessment of the areas that you wish to litter pick.

Please contact us if you need help creating a risk assessment.

You will need to provide us with a copy of your risk assessment before the litter picking equipment can be issued.

Insurance

Getting public liability insurance is important, as it covers you if someone gets hurt or something gets damaged during your event

If you represent an organisation, such as a parish or town council, you are likely to already have insurance in place, but it is important to check that litter picking activities are covered. If your group does not have a policy in place, please indicate this on your booking form as we may still be able to support your event.

Booking a kit

If you would like to book the equipment, please contact us with details of the event and copies of the documents mentioned above.
