Kingskerswell
In 2003, the Council carried out an assessment of local air quality in Kingskerswell. Sampling for Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) was conducted at three locations along the A380 main road through the village.
The levels recorded for this traffic pollutant exceeded government guidelines set by Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (Defra). This resulted in the declaration of an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) in 2005.
In 2014, following approval for central government funding, works commenced on a new dual carriageway to by-pass the village of Kingskerswell altogether. Since its completion at the end of 2015, traffic pollution levels within the Kingskerswell AQMA have dropped significantly.
The national air quality objectives have consistently been met for over 3 years in and around the Kingskerswell AQMA. It therefore meets the criteria required to revoke the AQMA.

Dawlish
The Council also carried out a screening exercise in Dawlish which involved a combination of monitoring and modelled data gathered over several months.
This identified an area in Dawlish town centre that exceeded the National objective for Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2). As a result an Air Quality Management Area (AQMA) was declared along Iddesleigh Terrace in Dawlish.
Since then traffic pollution levels within the AQMA have dropped significantly.
The national air quality objectives have consistently been met for over 3 years in and around this AQMA. It therefore meets the criteria required to revoke the AQMA.
