4. Cirl buntings and development

33% of the UK cirl bunting population reside in Teignbridge. The Council has worked with partners to produce guidance on how the planning process shall account for this iconic Devon species.

The Cirl Bunting and Development Guidance includes:

  • where development is likely to impact cirl buntings;
  • required survey methodology; and
  • a strategic compensation mechanism.

This guidance was adopted by Teignbridge Planning Committee on 24 October 2017. It is in the process of being adopted by other Authorities which may result in minor amendments. Please always refer to this page for the latest version.
