3. Protection for plants
All species of wild plant receive a basic level of protection and some rare species have additional legal protection.
Basic protection, applying to all plants: it is illegal to intentionally uproot any wild plant unless you are the owner of the land where the plant is growing, or the owner's 'agent'.
Additional protection: for species listed on Schedule 8 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act, it is illegal uproot, destroy or pick any part of the plant, including flowers and seed. It is also illegal to sell such plants or offer them for sale. In Teignbridge these species include: pennyroyal, deptford pink, sand crocus and others.
