2. what happens during a planning appeal?
Advice about planning appeals is available on the government website Guidance on Appeals.
Appeals may be considered by a Planning Inspector in one of three ways:
- written representations which involve the exchange of written statements by the appellant and the Council
- informal hearing
- public inquiry
Most appeals are handled in writing and take about 18 weeks to determine. Informal hearings are likely to take up to about 24 weeks and public inquiries up to about 40 weeks.
The appeal decision will be published by the Planning Inspectorate and can also be viewed on our planning and appeal files online.
