Extra waste

Over 60% of waste can be recycled. If you are finding your black bin is too small, it may be because you are not recycling everything you could be.

  1. check what you can recycle
  2. fit more in your recycling boxes by folding your cardboard and squashing your plastic bottles
  3. order additional recycling boxes if you regularly need extra space in your boxes
  4. visit a recycling bank to get rid of extra recycling
  5. contact us for further advice on reducing your waste.

Side waste

All your waste should be put inside your black wheeled bin with the lid down.

Black bags left next to your bin will not be collected.

If your bin is over full, we may need to remove a bag from your bin and leave it for your next collection.

Additional black bins

We can sometimes supply additional bins for residents

  • who produce healthcare waste
  • live in large households.

These are provided at our discretion, and on the condition that the recycling service is used fully. Please contact us to discuss.

Additional waste sacks

You can buy a supply of 10 approved additional waste sacks which can be collected from beside your bin on collection day.

Cost

It costs £44 for 10 approved additional waste sacks

We will send these to you in the post, so it will take a few days for them to reach you once ordered.

How to use

You can use up to 5 sacks on any black bin collection day or spread them out throughout the year.

You do not need to book when you will use your sacks.

You can only order one set of sacks in a 12 month period.

Other options

Additional waste can also be taken to your local recycling centre.  Black bag waste should be booked in in advance by contacting the Devon County Council waste team.
