Bulky waste
You can pay for a large or heavy household item, such as a fridge or item of furniture to be collected.
Collections:
- are made by Refurnish, a local charity who may resell items if useable
- are made from outside your property
- will be between 9am and 5pm on the day of collection, no specific time can be given
Items must be:
- covered to protect from the weather
- dismantled and uninstalled ready for collection
- clean and empty (e.g. no food in freezers etc.)
We cannot collect:
- from inside your house, garage, out building or allotment
- where access is deemed unsafe by our contractor (obstructions, steep/slippery steps etc.)
- items that cannot be lifted by two men with a sack truck (small two wheeled trolley)
- house and garden clearances
- from non residential properties
Charges
We charge for each item of bulky waste collected.
You will need to pay:
- a £28 non-refundable booking fee
- £12 per item
We are not able to refund if we attempt to make collection and are unable to due to access issues.
Discount on a fridge/freezer collection
If you receive council tax reduction (also known as council tax benefit) you will receive a reduction of £12 on a fridge/freezer collection.
You will need to supply your benefit reference number (found on your award letter) to claim this discount.
Items we collect
Quantity
We can collect up to 6 items per booking, with the exception of garden sheds (which count as 8 items).
If you have more than 6 items, you will need to book more than one collection.
This list shows what counts as an item of bulky waste:
Beds
- mattress - 1 item
- frame and headboard (not electric) - 1 item
- futon/sofabed - 2 items
Sofas and suites
- three piece suite - 3 items
- two piece suite - 2 items
- corner sofa/modular sofa - each module counts as an item
- sofa - 1 item
- armchair - 1 item
Carpet
- 1 roll or bag - 1 item
- underlay, 1 roll or bag - 1 item
Dining tables and chairs
- table - 1 item
- dining chairs (up to 6) - 1 item
Stereos
- stereos and speakers - 1 item
TVs
- TV - 1 item
- TV stand - 1 item
Wardrobes and cupboards
- freestanding wardrobe/cupboard (dismantled) – up to 2 doors – 1 item
- freestanding wardrobe/cupboard (dismantled) – 3 to 5 doors – 2 items
- freestanding wardrobe/cupboard (dismantled) - 6 doors - 3 items
- welsh/2 part dresser – 2 items
Fridges and freezers
- fridge (domestic appliances only) – 1 item
- freezer (domestic appliances only) – 1 item
- fridge/Freezer (domestic appliances only) – 1 item
We can collect large double size (full height, double doored)/American style fridge freezers, but these need to be placed with level access to the road for collection
Other white goods and ovens
- washing machine - 1 item
- tumble dryer - 1 item
- dishwasher - 1 item
- oven (standard size) - 1 item
- microwave - 1 item
Garden sheds
- garden shed (dismantled) - 8 items

Items we cannot collect
We cannot collect:
- animal cages and equipment
- bathroom suites (toilet, sink, bath, shower inc. shower screen)
- chemicals or asbestos of any kind
- commercial fridges or freezers or fridge freezers with locks
- DIY/construction/demolition waste
- double sized garage doors
- electric beds
- gas bottles
- leisure items (swings, slides, hot tubs)
- night storage heaters
- non-domestic household waste
- oil tanks or containers
- pianos
- range style ovens
- rubble, bricks, plaster or plasterboard
- sports equipment (exercise bikes etc)
- UPVC/plastic doors, windows and doorframes
- vehicle parts i.e. engines, gearboxes, motorbikes etc
- vehicle wheels or tyres
These items may be able to be taken to a recycling centre, please check their website for any costs and restrictions to your items.
Alternatively, you can employ a private company to collect your waste, please check they are a registered waste carrier.
