Moving bins

Please do not move bins between properties. Your old bins should remain at your previous address for the new occupiers. If you buy bins for a new property, they should remain at the property you brought them for when you move. All bins remain the property of the council.

Housing Associations

Contact us directly if you want to buy bins for multiple properties.

Flats/communal properties

If you are moving into a block of 4 or more flats. Please contact us as alternative containers may be more suitable.

Can I buy my own bins?

  • Yes, however these must be approved and meet the required design specifications and safety requirements before we will empty them.
  • You are required to participate in our recycling service and will need to supply all the containers needed to do so.
  • Please see further information on buying your own bins.

Why we charge

Council Tax covers the collection, recycling, and disposal of waste, but not the one-time cost of providing bins when a property is first occupied. The cost includes buying the bins and the average cost of delivery and administration. The cost of bins for new properties has increased due to more housing developments. Once you have bins, replacements are free (with some exceptions).
