Baths and basins

Bathroom suites can be taken to your local recycling centre if you have carried out the renovations yourself.

Please check the recycling centre's website for further information on any relevant costs. 

Batteries - car 

Car batteries can be taken to your local recycling centre. Car batteries are classed as 'hazardous waste' so cannot be disposed of in your black wheeled bin.

Batteries - home

Small household batteries (AA, AAA etc.) can be recycled in your green recycling box. Please place them in a clear plastic bag. 

Larger batteries, from vacuum cleaners and laptops etc, should be taken to a recycling centre.

Beds

Beds can be collected as part of our large item collection service, taken to a recycling centre, donated to charity, or sold on preloved marketplaces.

Bedding and duvets

Duvets and bedding can be taken to a recycling centre, however they cannot be recycled and will need to be put in the general waste container.

Duvet covers, pillow cases, sheets and blankets can be recycled as textiles. They can be placed in a carrier bag with your recycling, taken to a clothing bank or a recycling centre.

Bikes

Bikes can be taken to a recycling centre. They will either be sold on in the reuse shop or recycled depending on their condition.

Please also check local bike repair schemes to see if your bike can be repaired and reused.

Blister packs

Empty medicine and blister packs are not recyclable and need to be put in your black bin. 

Any old or unwanted tablets or medicines need to be returned to a pharmacy for disposal.

Some pharmacies offer take back schemes, please ask in your local store to see if they offer this service.

Birthday cards

Put in your green recycling box. 

Biscuit and sweet tins

Can be recycled in your black recycling box. Please remove any plastic packaging around or inside the tin.  

Unwanted biscuit and sweet tins also make great storage boxes.

Blankets

Clothes and textiles can be put in a carrier bag, tied up and left next to your recycling boxes on your usual recycling day.

Bleach

Chemicals eg. weed killers, pesticides, white spirits, bleaches, old medicines and any other household chemicals must be taken to your local recycling centre.

Books 

Soft back books can be recycled in your reusable sack for paper.

Alternatively, take them to a charity shop to be read by others or to your nearest recycling bank or a recycling centre.

Bottles and jars - glass

Rinse and put in your green recycling box. 

Alternatively, glass bottles and jars can be taken to a recycling centre or glass bottle recycling bank.

Bric-a-brac

Good quality bric-a-brac can be given to charity shops for re-sale. Alternatively items can be taken to a recycling centre. 

Bricks

Bricks can be taken to your local recycling centre providing any renovations have been done yourself.

Broken plates or glass

Please wrap carefully and place in your black wheeled bin.

Brown paper

Brown paper can be recycled along with your cardboard in your green recycling box.

Building material or rubble

Rubble/hardcore, soil and general construction waste from DIY projects can be taken to a recycling centre.
