Radiators

Radiators can be taken to your local recycling centre, or reclamation yard.

Radios

If usable, sell or donate to a charity shop. 

Take to a repair cafe to see if they can be fixed.

Take it to a recycling centre or in store electrical recycling point.  See recycle your electricals. 

Roofing felt

Take to your nearest recycling centre.

Rubble

Rubble and hardcore can be taken to your nearest recycling centre.

Scrap metals

Many metals can be re-used by the scrap metal industry. Either contact a local scrap merchant or take to your local recycling centre.

Sharps

Use our sharps collection service for needles.

Shoes

Take to a charity shop, local recycling centre or recycling bank.

Alternatively, pairs of shoes can be placed in a carrier bag, tied up and put next to your recycling boxes on your collection day.

Shredded paper

Put in your reusable sack for paper along with all other paper waste, or take to a paper recycling bank.

Smoke Alarms

Do not put these in your black bin. 

Take it to a recycling centre or in store electrical recycling point. See recycle your electricals for more information on recycling electricals.

Soil

Soil cannot be recycled with your garden waste, please take it to your nearest recycling centre. 

Spectacles

Some opticians take old spectacles to send overseas for charitable purposes. Most accept them to support the Vision Aid Overseas scheme.

Stamps

A selection of postage stamps, gift stamps and air mile stamps will be accepted at most charity shops.

Storage heaters

Storage Heaters containing asbestos may be disposed of free of charge at your local recycling centre, but must be booked in advance. The whole heater must be double wrapped in plastic and sealed.
