Paying to have your rubbish removed

Show all parts of this guide

2. Check who you pay to take your rubbish away

There are rogue traders who operate in this area. They promote themselves as legitimate waste contractors by using the local papers and social media. Others simply turn up on the doorstep if they see waste on a property. Often these traders go on to fly tip your waste.

If you are getting rid of rubbish, use our simple checklist:

  1. Ask to see a waste carriers licence. If you are unsure, you can check if a waste carrier is registered by calling the Environment Agency on 03708 506 506
  2. Take a note or photograph of the registration number of the vehicle that is being used to take your rubbish away.
  3. Ask where your rubbish is being taken, record any checks that you make and ask for a receipt or waste transfer note.
